Generative AI Tools

NotebookLM at UCD (Tool for Note-Taking and Research)

NotebookLM is an experimental, AI-powered research and note-taking tool developed by Google Labs. It is powered by Google Gemini and designed to help users organise, summarise, and interact with documents and content in a more intelligent way.

NotebookLM is available to UCD staff and students through their UCD Connect Google Workspace accounts.

⚠️ Important: NotebookLM is a new and experimental service. It is not a fully supported tool at UCD, and IT Services cannot provide support or guidance on its use. It should be used with caution, and all outputs must be critically evaluated.

🔍 What is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM allows users to:

  • Upload documents, web pages, and PDFs

  • Ask questions about the content

  • Generate summaries, study guides, and outlines

  • Interact with content through a chat-style interface

  • Save responses as notes for future reference

  • Experiment with audio overviews and other formats

These features can be helpful for tasks such as literature review preparation, early-stage writing, or structuring reading materials. However, it is essential to treat all outputs as suggestions, not facts.

🔐 Access and Data Protection

NotebookLM can be accessed at:
👉 notebooklm.google.com

When using your UCD Google Workspace account, your data is subject to the same protections as Gemini:

  • Content is not reviewed by humans

  • Data is not used to train AI models

  • All UCD user data is stored and processed within the EU
