Responsible AI: Social and Ethical Considerations

As we move into unit 4, we build upon the foundational understanding of AI, its diverse applications in teaching and learning, its limitations, and its potential to enhance accessibility. In this unit, we focus on perhaps the most crucial aspect of AI integration in education – Ethics.  

In this unit, we explore the ethical considerations of AI usage in higher education, providing faculty with insights to navigate this rapidly evolving field. As we are in a period of institutional, national, and international developments regarding AI, this resource aims not to prescribe policies, but to equip faculty with the knowledge to make informed decisions. We focus on fostering responsible AI use, emphasising transparency, and adapting to the ethical landscape of AI in Higher Education. As educators is not only improtant to consider how students use GenAI but to demonstrate responsible use.
